Canggu Coastal Pavilion
A porous coastal retreat in Badung Bali, defined by custom perforated terracotta breeze blocks, micro-cement, and horizon reflection pools.

Positioned merely 300 meters from the Indian Ocean coastline in Canggu, this pavilion embraces coastal environmental hostility as its primary design generator. Rather than creating sealed air-conditioned glass volumes, Karsara engineered an open-breathing spatial enclosure wrapped in custom artisanal terracotta breeze blocks (roster tanah liat).
The terracotta lattice screens filter salt-laden onshore winds while diffusing blinding equatorial sun into delicate geometric shadow patterns across cool micro-cement floors. As evening approaches, the lattice glows warmly from interior lantern illumination, appearing as a floating monolithic kiln.
A central silent reflection pool spans the length of the living pavilion, naturally cooling passing drafts before they enter private sleeping chambers, grounded in quiet Balinese spatial choreography.
