Rumah Cilandak
A contemplative courtyard residence defined by monolithic cast concrete, reclaimed teak, and the gentle choreography of tropical daylight.

Located in an established residential pocket of South Jakarta, Rumah Cilandak was designed as an introverted urban sanctuary. The site faces a dense neighborhood corridor; our response was to enclose the perimeter with board-marked tactile cast concrete walls, carving an expansive central courtyard open to the sky.
Passive cooling drives the home’s cross-sectional geometry. Deep cantilevered eaves protect expansive pocket glass doors from equatorial downpours while shielding living zones from direct afternoon glare. Air circulates freely across a silent reflection pool, reducing ambient temperatures naturally.
Every joinery element was fabricated from certified reclaimed Javanese teak, unvarnished and hand-waxed to reveal organic grain transitions. In contrast, honed volcanic basalt floor slabs anchor the interior, grounding the living pavilion in raw geological permanence.
Living Pavilion & Daylight Slits
Clerestory slit apertures cut high along the concrete ceiling allow morning sun to wash down cast walls, rendering textural aggregate variations that evolve throughout the day.
